Village of Waterloo Applying for Additional Microenterprise Funding - Summer 2016

The Village of Waterloo anticipates submitting an application this summer to NYS for Microenterprise Assistance Program (MAP) funding.  The funding is awarded by New York State Homes and Community Renewal under the Small Cities Community Development Block Grant Program.  The Village received MAP money in 2014 to assist existing or start-up microenterprises located (or wishing to locate) in the Village. They are striving to receive additional funding in 2016.

A microenterprise is a business that employs or will employ five or fewer persons, including the business owner or owners. The “five or fewer test” is based on total headcount regardless of the number of hours worked by each employee.  Grants will be awarded to eligible businesses on a competitive basis.  The Village can provide between $5,000 and $35,000 per business.  Owners must provide a cash equity contribution of at least 10% of the project total.

As part of the application process, the Village needs to demonstrate a high level of interest by business owners.  The Village is asking any interested business owners to fill out a pre-application.  Program guidelines along with a pre-application can be downloaded here.  Please return the pre-application to Thoma Development Consultants, 34 Tompkins Street, Cortland, NY by July 28, 2016.  Any questions can be directed to Laura Meagley, of Thoma Development, at 607-753-1433 or This email address is being protected from spambots.
